Event Description:

Emory Johns Creek Hospital to host blood drive to replenish Southeast blood supply

Emory Johns Creek Hospital will hold a blood drive on Friday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to support the American Red Cross.

Hurricane Matthew greatly impacted the blood and platelet supply in the Southeast. According to the American Red Cross, the storm prompted the cancelation of 110 Red Cross blood drives in the country, which resulted in about 3,500 uncollected blood and platelet donations.

Christina Vick, lab director for Emory Johns Creek Hospital says there’s an urgent need for donations right now.

“Your donations will help us replenish blood supply in the Southeast and assist patients in need,” Vick says. “We hope to receive at least 33 units during this blood drive.”

The American Red Cross says every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.

To schedule an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: emoryjohnscreek or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

The American Red Cross says it is important to eat well and drink plenty of water before and after giving blood.
