ANNOUNCING:   Georgia Piedmont Youth Orchestra Performance at Centennial High School April 26th

The Georgia Piedmont Youth Orchestra (GPYO), a competitive full orchestra formed this year will give a free concert on Saturday, April 26th at 7PM at Centennial High School in Roswell, GA.  This is the second concert by this talented new group formed under the Artistic Direction of Michael Palmer, founder of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Some of the best string, woodwind, brass and percussion students from around the county will come together to play a short program including  L’Arlesienne Suite # 1 by Bizet and Schubert’s Fifth Symphony.
All members of the public are welcome, and parents are encouraged to bring children to introduce them to music they will find engaging.  Student performers will be available to share their experiences with concert goers after the show.
For more information on the concert or the orchestra please visit www.gpyoa.org
Students in GPYO experience superb orchestral instruction from one of the country’s most respected conductors, Michael Palmer.  In addition to appearances around the United States, Mr. Palmer has also appeared in Europe as a guest conductor in Austria and Poland, where his performances have brought critical acclaim. Mr. Palmer joined the Georgia State University School of Music faculty in 2004, as director of orchestras, and was appointed as the Charles Thomas Wurm Distinguished Professor of Orchestral Studies in 2006.
Students involved with the orchestra say, “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to play with other students who are motivated to achieve the highest level of success.” Also, “Getting feedback from a professional conductor like Mr. Palmer has allowed us to improve our abilities beyond what we thought we could do.”  In addition to comments like these, new friendships have been formed, and students feel the orchestra has helped them to create a stronger sense of discipline, confidence, self-esteem, and a deeper sense of appreciation for the music they play.
