The Johns Creek Historical Society's focus is discovering, preserving, and sharing the history of the land and earlier inhabitants of the area that is today's City of Johns Creek, Georgia. We offer monthly history programs and organize tours of local cemeteries, history sites, museums, and other history resource centers. We've been busy discovering local history through independent research, partnering with other historical societies and historians, and by connecting with long-time residents and descendants of the early farm families of this area.
A current project with the City is to preserve, improve, and document the Macedonia Cemetery, a small, historic African-American burial site
A goal of the Johns Creek Historical Society is to gather in one place the records and stories of the past to create both a physical and digital archive to preserve Johns Creek's history and make the records available to the public. We already have gathered a substantial collection of books, documents, maps, photos, video and audio recordings, genealogical information, land transactions, and other records. A priority for 2021 is establishing a physical location for a history archives and research library for the City of Johns Creek to make the historical records available to the public and allow for growing our collection of physical artifacts. Contact us if you have history items that you would like to donate to the archives or would allow us to copy or photograph.
The Johns Creek Historical Society is a 501(c)3 community organization incorporated as a nonprofit in January 2017.
